Long Story Privacy Policy

Long Story is a personal memory journal. Your memories are private by default. This policy explains what the app stores, where, and why.

What you capture

Photos, videos, voice recordings, and text you add to the app are stored on your device. If you sign in, they are also backed up to your account so they sync across devices and can be shared with trips you choose to share them with.

Sign-in

You can use Long Story without an account. Signing in with Apple or with an email code creates an account identified by your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and, if you allow it, your name. We use these only to identify your account and show your name to people in trips you share with.

AI processing

When a moment is saved, its text or transcript, the trip name, time, and place name are sent to our server and then to Anthropic's Claude API to produce a title, summary, and the people, places, and themes mentioned. Features such as Chapters, Ask Your Memories, the year recap, and book forewords send the relevant moments' text the same way. Photos, videos, and audio recordings are never sent to the AI service. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models.

Voice transcription

Recordings are transcribed on your device using Apple's speech recognition. On some devices Apple's servers may be used, as described in Apple's speech recognition permission prompt.

Location

With your permission, the app records where a moment happened so it can name the place. Location is stored with the moment and is never used for tracking or advertising.

Sharing

Moments are private unless you mark them as shared with a trip. Only people who have joined that trip can see shared moments. Anyone you send a memory to using the share sheet receives a copy outside the app.

Where data lives

Backed-up data is stored with Supabase in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

What we don't do

• No advertising and no ad tracking.
• No selling or sharing of your data with third parties beyond the services above that run the app.
• No analytics identifiers linked to you.

Deleting your data

Delete individual moments or trips in the app at any time. To delete your account and everything backed up to it, open your account in the app and choose Delete account. Local moments stay on your phone unless you delete the app.

Children

Long Story is not directed at children under 13.
